Windows Embedded Standard Jumpstart

Course Introduction: This course provides students with Windows Embedded Standard 2009 or Windows Embedded Standard 7 training and consultancy. It is intended to provide companies with sufficient in-house expertise to design, to build and to deploy Windows Embedded Standard operating systems.

Who is it for? This training is suitable for administration and development staff who have no previous experience of using Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio software.  It is also suitable for staff with some previous experience who wish to learn about advanced toolset features.

Course Content: Attendees will cover the following;

  • An introduction to Windows Embedded Toolset
  • A demonstration of the Windows Embedded Toolset
  • How to manage WES Configurations
  • An Overview of the Build Process
  • Deployment scenarios and how they can affect the Build Process
  • How to meet configuration customisation requests
  • Advanced Componentisation
  • The extended functionality offered by component designer
  •  An overview of how componentisation problems can be resolved
  •  An overview of how to create components to meet complex requirements

Topics covered in the second half of this course are tailored to the attendees needs and can cover any of the following topics;

  • Project Management and Procedures
  • Configuring and Using the Device Update Agent
  • Configuring and Using the File Based Write Filter
  • Configuring and Using the Enhanced Write Filter
  • Headless Operation
  • Producing Configurations That Can Be Easily Modified For Different Target Platforms
  • Using more than one MUI in a configuration
  • Advanced run-time problem analysis
  • Configuring Components Using CMI, Scripting and DHTML
  • Troubleshooting Boot Problems
  • Build Process Automation
  • Advanced Deployment and Cloning Mechanisms
  • A comparison between the functionality offered by Windows XP Embedded FP2007 and Windows Embedded Standard 2009
  • Migrating Windows XP Embedded FP2007 projects for use under Windows Embedded Standard 2009

Prerequisites: Attendees will need to be proficient in the use of Windows XP Professional user interface. Attendees will also need to be knowledgeable in the installation, configuration and operation of Windows XP Professional operating systems, configuration and operation of computer hardware.

Duration: 5 day training course

What you will need to do this course:

  • Windows Embedded Standard (Evaluation Toolkit)
  • Adobe Acrobat Viewer
  • Windows XP Professional SP3 or Windows Vista or Windows 7 Professional or above
  • Minimum Pentium 4 2GHz CPU (the faster the better)
  • Minimum 1GB RAM
  • Minimum 20GB Hard Disk Space free (for Tools Installation)
  • Network Adapter
  • Site Facilities: Projector (native resolution of 1024x768 or better), Whiteboard, Internet Access for Instructor and Student PCs.
