Microsoft Windows XP Pro is an extremely popular operating system (OS) platform for single-function devices such as information kiosks, signage, gaming machines, control panels and much more. However, for such applications Windows XP Embedded usually offers both technical advantages and lower license fees. Many device manufacturers are discouraged from switching to XP Embedded by concerns over compatibility issues and the up-front effort needed to create a suitable OS image. To address these concerns MPC Data has now launched the Embedded XPert service which guarantees to migrate existing single-function devices from XP Pro to XP Embedded. To check if this service is suitable for you check the following: Is your XP Pro based device/product; Of course, if you believe that your product is unsuitable for moving to XP Embedded then we are always happy to offer free advice and, where appropriate, suggest alternative options. The Embedded XPert service includes creation of a high quality, small footprint, Windows XP Embedded OS image, integration of third party device drivers if necessary, integration of the client's application program(s), and OS configuration to match the existing XP Pro devices. MPC Data conduct initial testing to confirm that all client applications run successfully on the new image and provide a 'Golden Image' ready for replication. It is expected that the client will conduct further testing based on their knowledge of the required behaviour and typical usage scenarios. The Embedded XPert service includes a 90 day warranty to help resolve any issues revealed during testing. The cost of this service is £4800 + VAT, subject to contract. Streamlining surgeries 24/05/2007
MPC Data has been working closely with Telehealth Solutions on their new and innovative product, iHealthCheck. The device reduces NHS waiting lists by optimising the use of the doctors’ appointment time and thereby streamlining the entire patient experience.
On average iHealthCheck reduces the time that each patient needs to spend with the doctor by up to 8 minutes without sacrificing patient care. It works by allowing several of the routine tests performed by doctors to be conducted whilst the patient is still in the waiting room either by themselves or with the help of a nurse, leaving the doctor free to focus on detailed diagnosis.
MPC Data is helping Telehealth Solutions take their initial proof-of-concept design and turn it into a robust solution ready for large scale field trials. The iHealthCheck client device takes full advantage of Microsoft Windows XP Embedded to provide a very reliable system which is easy to manage remotely. The software has been designed from the ground up for portability, so that it can be easily moved to Windows CE for future high volume, low cost variants.
