BSQUARE Company Wins Microsoft Technical Excellence Award 24/10/2011

Bellevue, WA & Trowbridge, U.K. – October 24, 2011 – BSQUARE Corporation (NASDAQ: BSQR), a leading enabler of smart, connected devices, today announced that MPC Data, Ltd., a BSQUARE Company, received a Microsoft Technical Excellence Award for the Company’s delivery of highest quality technical solutions on the latest Windows Embedded technologies in the European region.

The award, which was presented at the Microsoft European Channel Partner Summit, recognizes demonstrated technical leadership by MPC Data and the Company’s delivery of significant, positive impacts for customers building solutions on Microsoft Embedded technologies. MPC Data was chosen amongst all Microsoft partners in the European region for work done for customers during the Microsoft 2011 fiscal year.

Latest Windows Embedded CE6 and Compact 7 BSPs from MPC Data combine support for the TI BeagleBoard and BeagleBoard-xM

MPC Data announces new Windows Embedded BSPs with built-in support for both the original TI OMAP3530 based BeagleBoard and the latest DM3730 based BeagleBoard-xM hardware.

By combining the board support features for both hardware platforms with latest SoC support, platform drivers and OpenGL ES libraries, MPC Data delivers the first BSPs supporting all flavours of the BeagleBoard with either Windows Embedded CE6.0R3 or Windows Embedded Compact 7.

The original BeagleBoard Rev C series is still very popular for developers requiring NAND boot and storage in their hardware and our new BSPs enable these customers the ability to take advantage of the latest codebase and operating system releases for the TI OMAP35xx and DM37xx devices.

Our BSP comes with built-in NAND support for the BeagleBoard and auto detection and configuration of BeagleBoard-xM Rev B or Rev C hardware. The single codebase gives developers a common development platform and driver API which gets the most out of the hardware features available. The custom EBOOT bootloader provided by MPC Data enables a high degree of configuration of the hardware coupled with flexible boot media options.

This latest platform from MPC Data is the perfect platform for developing rich GUI applications using Silverlight or Crank Storyboard with full hardware accelleration or even the next generation of ultra low power thin clients with Microsoft's RemoteFX technology.

Free binary evaluation images and low-cost source code licenses will be available in early September for download on the MPC Data eStore or through our 3rd Party Distribution Partners, Arrow Electronics and Premier Farnell / Element 14.

Existing source BSP customers will be able to update for free to the latest BSPs through their My MPC account on our eStore.

MPC Data Software Engineer makes final six in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011

MPC Data Software Engineer Kevin Pfister, two times Winner of the Microsoft Imagine Cup UK Embedded Design Competition recently took part in the 2011 worldwide finals held this year in New York. After several judging rounds consisting of demos, presentations and Q&A, Kevin made it through to the final 6 teams with his project ‘Child Sleep Safe’ a next generation baby monitoring and response system built upon Windows Embedded Compact 7.

The Imagine Cup competition sees teams create solutions that address real world issues via the use of technology. Child Sleep Safe aims to reduce infant mortality by analysing environmental conditions on and around a child in real time, and if required interact with various home automation systems to correct any issues that arise before the need to warn parents.

This year the Imagine Cup saw over 350,000 registrants however Kevin remains the only single competitor team to compete in the embedded category during the competitions 9 year history, having previously got through to the final 6 teams in the 2010 Imagine Cup finals held in Warsaw, Poland with an augmented reality system to aid blind and partially sighted individuals.

Microsoft demonstrates MPC Data’s Remote FX implementation on Beagleboard-XM based thin client

Microsoft Technical Evangelist – Olivier Bloch – recently demonstrated the Windows Embedded Compact 7 based Remote FX capability in his online blog spot: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/obloch/archive/2011/06/02/remotefx-on-windows-embedded-compact-7.aspx.

This latest technology is indicative of how ARM based products are now enabling very small footprint, low power products in the thin client computing space.

There are many documented benefits of thin and zero clients, but the implementation of Windows Embedded Compact 7 (WEC7 – the new name for WinCE) Remote FX by MPC Data onto low cost Cortex-A8 technology - allows the user to have the full desktop experience – without the need for a PC.

In Olivier’s blog you will see an embedded video, where Olivier talks about having a low cost – low power - fast booting client – running from Flash memory rather than disk.

Olivier moves on to talk about the streaming of high quality video and the USB re-direction – not previously seen on thin clients – and shows the Beagleboard-XM connecting to a VM server with and without Remote FX enabled.
