Windows CE 'Quickstart'

Course Introduction: This workshop is intended to provide attendees with an overview of the operations required to produce Windows CE 6 solutions. A series of presentations and hands-on exercises have been combined to create a format that allows attendees to work at their own pace to produce sample Windows CE 6 configurations.

Who is it for? This course is suitable for system integrators and embedded systems developers who are not familiar with the Windows CE operating system or the Platform Builder development environment.

Course Content: Attendees will cover the following;

Overview of Windows CE Architecture (OAL, bootloader, object store, kernel etc)
Comparisons between desktop Windows/XP Embedded, Linux and CE
Tools overview for OS and application development
Platform Builder basic OS configuration
OS Design customisation
Operating Syatem configuration files
Platform Builder build process
Basic use of Visual Studio with a custom CE OS Design
Debugging Applications and the OS image
Creating a sample advertising "kiosk" application that will run on specific hardware
Licensing considerations

Prerequisites: This course requires that the attendees have general knowledge covering;

Computer software and use of PCs
Computer Hardware
Embedded Systems and their uses

Duration: This is a 1 day workshop

Development Software; Windows Embedded CE R2 (Evaluation toolkit), Adobe Acrobat Viewer
Hardware Development PC; Windows XP Professional SP3 or Windows Vista, Min Pentium 4 2GHz CPU (the faster the better), Min 1GB RAM, Min 20GB Hard Disk Space free (for Tools Installation), Network Adapter
Site Facilities; Projector (native resolution of 1024x768 or better), Whiteboard, Internet Access for Instructor and student PCs
