Getting started with embedded Linux can either involve purchasing an expensive commercial board support package or spending a lot of time piecing together your own components to form your own embedded Linux distribution and board support package. The aim of www.shlinux.com is to provide a documented and working embedded Linux mini-distribution to save you time in evaluating embedded Linux on a Renesas development board. You can then use this as the basis for your own embedded Linux project.
MPC Data Linux kernel and
BSP for the TI DaVinci DM355
TMDXEVM355 BSP
MPC Data is developing an Linux Board Support package for the TI DaVinci DM355. The BSP is targeted on the TMDXEVM355 Digital Video Evaluation Module and the code is based on the latest available 2.6.24 kernel and currently has support for Ethernet, frame buffer, serial UART and SD/MMC drivers. Support for additional peripherals is being added, and will be available in the near future.

Why are MPC Data Ltd developing an independent kernel and BSP when there is already the MontaVista solution available?
As a MontaVista Premier Professional Services Partnertm we recognise the value in basing development on a stable and well supported platform, already an excellent solution for many of our customers. We have however been receiving an increasing volume of enquiries and customer demand for a Linux package derived from the latest community source tree – 2.6.24.
We also see our offering as an alternative and complimentary solution, alongside our Windows CE 6.0 BSP for some of our customers, typically forming the basis of a custom product development through our managed Professional Services involvement. It also provides an alternative cost model.
