The TI OMAP 35x processors represent the first broad-market offering of the ARM Cortex™-A8 core, and offer very high performance processing at the best performance/power ratio in a single chip. This free workshop was an excellent opportunity to get in-depth training on the TI OMAP processor family and the ARM Cortex™-A8 core.
With more than four times the processing capability of today's 300 MHz ARM9 devices, the superscalar Cortex-A8 core runs up to 600 MHz and is integrated into four new OMAP35xTM applications processors for a wide range of possible applications, including portable infotainment and industrial devices, points of sale, digital signage and low-power medical devices.

MPC Data demonstrated the rich operating system support which is available on the OMAP 35x processor family, including Microsoft Windows CE and Embedded Linux on both the OMAP3 EVM and Beagleboard, along with a selection of applications to illustrate the capabilities of these platforms.
Following significant interest in Windows CE6.0 support on the BeagleBoard we are now testing a beta version - watch out for the full announcement soon!

MPC Data have today announced the availability of new and updated Linux board support packages (BSP's) for the Renesas Technology SuperH RISC range of processors.
The SH7670 incorporates SH2A-FPU core. The SH7670 achieves processing performance of 480 MIPS when running at the maximum operating frequency of 200 MHz. The on-chip Ethernet controller incorporates an IEEE802.3-compliant MAC layer. In addition, the SH7670 is the first product incorporating an Ethernet controller, USB 2.0 host and function module on a single chip, eliminating the need for a dedicated external LAN controller and USB 2.0 LSIs.
The Renesas Starter Kit+ board features the SH7670 processor with 4MB Flash Memory, 16MB SDRAM, CAN controller, USB Host and Function, an on-chip LCD controller and 2.2" QVGA TFT Display.
The uCLinux (Linux with no MMU) BSP provides full kernel source code, toolchain and example filesystem images to demonstrate the features of the RSK7670+ evaluation board and includes a number of sample applications. The BSP and 'Getting Started Guide' can be downloaded free of charge from www.shlinux.com.
The SH7201 is a high-performance microcontroller, incorporating an SH2A-FPU core. This LSI operates at a maximum operating frequency of 120MHz and incorporates an FPU, which supports single-precision and double-precision floating point hardware which enables high performance signal processing. In addition, this LSI includes peripheral functions such as a multifunction timer for motor control, a CAN controller, a serial communication interface with a 16-stage FIFO and an I2C bus interface.
The Renesas Starter Kit board features the SH7201 processor with 4MB Flash Memory, 16MB SDRAM and comprehensive IO expansion options.
The BSP provides full kernel source code, toolchain and example filesystem images to demonstrate the features of the RSK7201 evaluation board. The BSP can be downloaded free of charge from www.shlinux.com.
An updated BSP for the very popular SH2A based SH7203 starter kit is also available. The latest BSP includes patches to improve the performance of the Ethernet driver on the platform.
SHLinux.com is operated and maintained by MPC Data through the Renesas Platinum Partner programme. This is our contribution to the Linux community alongside our commitment to submitting patches for board support into the Linux kernel mainline.
